Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind Truth Social, has reported a significant financial loss of $238 million for the second quarter. This comes as the firm refocuses its efforts on the social media sector, having previously ventured into areas such as cryptocurrency. Despite the losses, the company saw its revenue more than double from the previous year, reaching $1.7 million during the quarter.
Kevin McGurn, the newly appointed CEO, emphasized that the company would now allocate its resources more towards strengthening its core business in social media. While doing so, it will continue to pursue selected projects, including a planned merger with TAE Technologies, a company specializing in nuclear fusion. This strategic shift marks a move back to the company’s foundational focus amid its broader business explorations.
In a bid to enhance its offerings, Trump Media has introduced Truth API, a subscription-based service aimed at financial firms. This service offers early access to posts from former President Trump and other high-profile users on Truth Social. The subscription fees range from $60,000 to $100,000 monthly, and the service has already secured 10 customers, primarily from high-frequency trading firms, underscoring its appeal in financial circles.
Financially, Trump Media appears to be sustaining itself with substantial reserves. At the end of the quarter, the company reported holding over $400 million in cash and short-term investments. Additionally, it possesses approximately $1.2 billion in assets related to bitcoin. However, the company also carries a significant amount of debt, about $1 billion through convertible notes, which are due to mature in 2028.
As Trump Media navigates these financial dynamics, its focus on core social media activities, alongside selective strategic projects like the merger with TAE Technologies, positions the company for potential growth. The introduction of services like Truth API reflects its intent to diversify revenue streams while leveraging its unique platform’s strengths.
