Apple has unveiled a significant partnership with Broadcom, committing over $30 billion to produce more than 15 billion chips within the United States. This initiative aims to bolster domestic semiconductor production and extend Apple’s American supply chain network.
The investment aligns with Apple’s larger ambition to create a comprehensive U.S.-based chip infrastructure, encompassing both the design and manufacturing stages. This strategic move is projected to generate hundreds of jobs while boosting the production of sophisticated wireless technologies utilized in Apple devices.
A key element of the agreement involves Broadcom allocating $1.5 billion to enhance and upgrade its manufacturing plant located in Fort Collins, Colorado. This facility will focus on producing cutting-edge radio frequency (RF) components, including FBAR filters, which are vital for improving wireless performance and connectivity across Apple’s range of products.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, highlighted that this partnership underscores the company’s enduring dedication to American manufacturing and innovation. He emphasized the importance of the advanced components from Colorado in achieving the high performance and wireless capabilities that Apple customers anticipate. Cook also expressed pride in deepening Apple’s investment in U.S.-based suppliers that specialize in advanced technology and high-quality manufacturing.
Hock Tan, CEO of Broadcom, expressed his enthusiasm about the expanded partnership, asserting that Broadcom shares Apple’s commitment to enhancing American innovation and manufacturing. This new agreement is a component of Apple’s previously disclosed $600 billion U.S. investment plan, which includes boosting manufacturing capacity, developing AI server facilities in Texas, and generating additional high-skilled jobs nationwide.
