Lidl Hungary has inaugurated its largest warehouse in the country with the opening of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. This development represents an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to around €162 million. The expansive facility, spanning more than 83,000 square meters, is set to supply approximately 70 Lidl stores and has already generated over 400 new jobs, with plans to recruit about 50 more employees soon.
The logistics center is equipped with 194 loading docks and boasts a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated area. In alignment with sustainability goals, the center incorporates energy-efficient systems, including a 9,000-square-meter solar panel installation on its roof. Additionally, it features a system that utilizes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating, highlighting Lidl’s commitment to green technology. Surrounding the facility is a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green space, enhancing the site’s environmental footprint.
This strategic addition is anticipated to bolster Lidl’s supply chain efficiency across Hungary. Each day, around 4,500 pallets of goods are expected to be dispatched from the center, reinforcing the retailer’s expansive distribution network. Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores throughout Hungary and sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers, underlining its dedication to supporting domestic production.
The new logistics center is not only a testament to Lidl’s growth strategy but also a significant boost to its operational capabilities within Hungary. As the retailer continues to expand, this facility will play a crucial role in enhancing logistics and supply chain operations, thereby strengthening Lidl’s presence and service in the Hungarian market.
